Position Information

Thirlmere Public School proudly sits on Dharawal country and has been a vital part of its semi‑rural community since 1888. We are fortunate to have a dedicated and hardworking P&C; association that continuously supports our school, both financially and through their hands‑on involvement. With approximately 400 students spread across 16 mainstream classes from K‑6, our diverse school community includes 16% of students who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.

We are committed to helping all students reach their full potential by offering an engaging and challenging curriculum tailored to their needs. To foster a love for music, our dedicated band teacher allows every student from Year 2 the opportunity to learn an instrument and join the school band. Our vibrant extra‑cultural program includes band, drums, recorder, percussion, choir, dance, and public speaking, ensuring students can explore various interests. We also encourage active participation in sports, providing opportunities for students to join PSSA sporting events.

Our passionate staff are committed to their professional growth, continuously improving their teaching practices through ongoing learning and mentoring. This dedication ensures that students excel academically and thrive socially and emotionally. For those requiring additional support, we have a wide range of resources available, including a chaplain, therapy dog, counsellor, learning and support teaching team, School Learning Support Officers, and external interventionists, all working together to create a nurturing setting tailored to each child's needs.

We believe in empowering our students through distributed leadership, offering them various opportunities to take on roles such as Student Representative Council members, environmental leaders, and library and technology leaders. These groups meet regularly to ensure that student voices are heard in school decision‑making.

Our school is well‑equipped, with modern interactive LED TV touch boards in every classroom, as well as access to a library of laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads. Our facilities also include a synthetic soccer field, adventure playground, basketball court, Adventure Playground, and library, all designed to enhance the learning experience.

Specific Selection Criteria

- Approval to teach K‑6, with demonstrated ability to design and deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based teaching programs that build foundational literacy and numeracy skills through explicit teaching strategies, tailored to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative teamwork, continuous professional development, and the use of data‑driven insights to inform reflective practice, share expertise, and foster a culture of ongoing improvement that ensures positive student outcomes.
- Commitment to whole school wellbeing programs, with a strong emphasis on implementing effective classroom practice and behaviour management strategies that contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture.
- Willingness to undertake extra‑cultural activities throughout the school, working as a member of a whole school team and contributing to a positive and professional school culture.
