The primary purpose of this role is the construction of bus frames and other metal frames from lengths of steel and steel sheeting.
- Produce work of high quality and work in a safe manner
- ability to read and interpret engineer's drawings
- use safe work procedures when using electrical workshop equipment and hand-held tools
- proficient in MIG and flux core welding
**Tasks Include**:
- Marks off and fabricates structural steel and other metal stock to make or repair metal products and structures such as boilers and pressure vessels
- studying blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job requirements
- selecting, cleaning and preparing metal stock
- cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines
- shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering
- aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments
- joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting
- examining welds for width of bead, penetration and precision
- various sheeting materials are measured, cut, folded and prepared for cladding of bus frame
- modifying wheelbase length on chassis to suit body type,
- fabricating Chassis Cross Members and centre Hanger for Drive Shafts
- cut, prepare and fit wooden floorboards
- extend/shorten chassis air lines and wiring
Any other reasonable duties as requested by the manager, general manager or director.
