Job Description: Normanby Unit, Kew location Permanent full time Friendly & supportive team About the Role You will become a part of our dynamic team, with the opportunity to develop your clinical skills through treating a diverse range of patients in challenging and rewarding settings. You will assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and record interventions and patient care. Provide physical and psychological care & support Contribute to assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the patient within a safe and therapeutic environment to promote prompt recovery Assess the medical, physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of patients to ensure high quality care Actively encourage patients and their significant others to participate in management planning and or care programs Monitor and review the provision of care using research outcomes, continuous quality improvement activities and systems appraisals Classifications for this position will range from Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 NP21 – NP70 ($72,404 - $96,808 per annum pro rata) Your Contribution Completed Bachelor of Nursing Degree Current Nursing Registration with AHPRA Current experience in the delivery of Aged Care Mental Health Nursing is essential Experience in conflict management / negotiation Motivated, professional & exhibiting exceptional communication and time management skills. You may therefore be required to undergo mandatory immunisations/vaccinations LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT Normanby Unit is a 20-bed Acute admission and assessment unit in Kew, caring for people with psychiatric illness over the age of 65 who are looked after by a skilled and compassionate multidisciplinary team. POSITION PURPOSE The primary function of this position is to ensure the provision of comprehensive assessment and quality nursing care under the Mental Health Act 2014 and meet the requirements of the Aged Care and Accreditation Standards. The Grade 2 Registered Nurse will contribute to assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the patient within a safe and therapeutic environment to promote prompt recovery. POSITION DUTIES In Conjunction with NUM and/or ANUM assess, plan, implement, evaluate and record interventions for the patient in line with professional and clinical standards. Plan patients care in line with the clinical standards and values or the organization at all times Document care plans of the patients in a timely manner using appropriate clinical language and appropriate assessment of the medical, physical, mental, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the patients to ensure the provision of high quality care Monitor and review the provision of care using research outcomes, continuous quality improvement activities and systems appraisals in line with the commonwealth patient care standards Actively encourage patients and their significant others to participate in management planning and or care programs while ensuring confidentiality and respect for the patients privacy Accept responsibility for the patients care in a safe and therapeutic environment, ensuring clinical practice extends to the social and psychosocial needs of the patient Insure familiarity with the relevant legislation, service policy and department of Human Services guidelines and act accordingly Actively participate in the Aged Mental Health Education Program SELECTION CRITERIA ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION, LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor of Nursing Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) OTHER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Experience in the delivery of clinical aged mental health services Demonstrated organizational skills, including proven ability to direct and encourage a multidisciplinary team Ability to prioritise and work to schedules to achieve the best outcomes for patients Experience in conflict management / negotiations Experience in managing a clinical unit, ward or department Demonstrated written & verbal communication skills which allows for effective communication with residents, visitors and staff at all levels An understanding of relevant legislation, the principles and practice of aged psychiatry and an understanding of the Mental Health Act 2014.
