A dynamic Federal Government Department is seeking a motivatedAPS6 Cyber Security Advisorto join a small, fast-paced team in Canberra.
This opportunity offers a collaborative environment where you will work directly with the Information Technology Security Advisor (ITSA) to ensure the department's compliance and strengthen its security posture.
This role is initially offered on a6-month non-ongoing basiswith an additional 6-month extension and includes the option forSection 26 transferfor current APS employees.
Key Responsibilities
As an integral part of the team, you will be responsible for providing essential security advice and operational support:
Compliance & Policy:Interpret and apply Australian Government security policy and legislation, including theProtective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)and theInformation Security Manual (ISM).
Conduct security assessments and contribute to auditing and reporting on compliance status.
Risk Management:Conduct security risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend appropriate mitigations and countermeasures.
Apply sound judgement to evaluate alternatives and manage risks affecting day-to-day operations.
Security Operations:Contribute to the monitoring, triage, and coordination of cyber security incident response activities, which involves analysing logs and alerts and supporting detailed investigations.
Stakeholder Management:Effectively engage and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to translate technical security requirements into clear business advice.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking current public servants who possess a strong foundation in government security practices:
Security Clearance:Must hold a currentBaselineorNV1 clearance.
Essential Policy Experience:Proven experience in applying the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and the Information Security Manual (ISM) in a practical government environment.
Technical Knowledge:Demonstrated knowledge of the Essential Eight (E8) maturity model and its implementation.
Desirable Skill:Hands on experience in System Administration, Network Administration, or Security tooling is beneficial but not essential
