Sumich is seeking a Packing Shed Floor Supervisor to lead our Day Shift onion factory floor team.
This casual role reports to the Production Manager and would suit someone who has a basic understanding of packing machinery, enjoys working with people, and is confident working in a busy packhouse environment.
This is a hands-on, physically active role, which requires climbing stairs and remaining on your feet throughout the shift.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Production Manager to keep operations running smoothly, ensuring staff, machinery, and packaging flow efficiently through the packhouse.
The Floor Supervisor will coordinate and support packers, stackers, and machine operators, and will work closely with the Despatch team.
They will assist with training new floor staff, maintaining quality and food safety standards, and monitoring daily operational performance.
The onion season begins in mid-January and typically runs until mid to late October.
Key responsibilities
Supervise daily workflow across packing lines
Assist with staff training and onboarding
Monitor machine operator, packer and stacker performance and reassign as needed
Provide support to machine operators, stackers and packers when required
Assist machine operators with crop and packaging changeovers and communicate operational changes to floor staff promptly
Ensure shift paperwork and end-of-shift cleaning of designated area is complete
Support the Production Manager as required
