About the MSO
Established in 1906 the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is not only Australia's oldest orchestra, but one of the country's most forward‐looking major arts institutions. It currently engages over 2.5 million people through live and recorded broadcasts and performs live to more than 300 000 people annually, in concerts ranging from performances at its home, Hamer Hall at Arts Centre Melbourne, to its annual free concerts at Melbourne's largest outdoor venue, the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. The MSO presents innovative and engaging programmes to audiences of all ages across Victoria through its outreach, education, and community initiatives.
About the role
Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Sales, the Head of Marketing leads the execution of marketing strategies that grow audiences, strengthen the MSO brand, and drive revenue across ticket sales, digital platforms, memberships and commercial activity.
This role plays a key part in shaping audience strategy and customer experience, while supporting broader organisational objectives across Corporate Partnerships, Philanthropy, Learning & Engagement and Executive functions.
Leading a high‐performing team, you will oversee campaign delivery, manage agency relationships, and ensure marketing activity is informed by data, insights and evolving audience behaviours. This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong stakeholder engagement, commercial acumen, and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‐on delivery.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced marketing leader who brings creativity, professionalism and a strong results focus, along with a collaborative and positive approach.

Successful applicant will possess the following:
Education and Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in marketing or a related discipline.
Knowledge and Demonstrated Experience
* Proven experience developing and delivering marketing strategies to drive revenue and audience growth.
* Strong commercial acumen, including experience across e‐commerce, retail and customer engagement/loyalty programmes.
* Experience leading and developing high‐performing teams.
* Proven experience managing external agencies, including media buying and digital partners.
* Ability to work across multiple stakeholders to deliver integrated marketing outcomes.
* Strong experience creating compelling marketing and corporate content.
* Experience managing budgets and optimiser performance through data and insights.
Skills Required
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high‐quality content.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast‐paced environment.
* High attention to detail, balanced with the ability to maintain a strategic perspective.
* Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Desirable
* A passion for the arts and an appreciation of orchestral music.
* Understanding of contemporary audience behaviours within the arts sector.
* Experience with Tessitura, Mosaic, or other audience/data platforms.
