AO6 Senior Procurement & Contracts Officer – Townsville Team
Townsville based Senior Procurement & Contracts unit position supporting high‑risk procurement activities, commercial risk management and contract governance within a major government service.
Your new organisationThis role sits within a large and complex Government Department. You will support the Procurement and Contracts Unit, contributing to the delivery of high‑quality procurement outcomes, commercial risk oversight and contract governance across a diverse operational environment.
Your new roleThis is a 6-month contract and in this role, you will:Provide expert procurement, commercial risk, and contract management advice to internal Service Groups. Lead high‑risk, high‑value end‑to‑end procurements, including stakeholder engagement, planning, market analysis, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and contract award. Ensure all procurement activities comply with State Government policies, probity requirements and delegations. Prepare policy advice, reports, documentation and briefings for senior leaders and executives. Conduct compliance audits through transactional testing and quality assurance checks across procurement activities. Audit internal Procurement & Contracts Unit processes to maintain strong governance, recordkeeping, and procedural compliance. Build effective relationships with internal clients and suppliers, resolving issues and supporting contract performance. Monitor procurement and commercial trends to drive continuous improvement and strengthen risk management practices. Provide informal mentoring to team members, modelling professionalism and high‑quality work standards.

Strong procurement expertise across planning, development, administration, and contract management.Experience working within large, multidisciplinary organisations, ideally government or a regulated sector.Exceptional communication, consultation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.A sharp eye for commercial and contractual risk, and confidence managing these within a structured framework.Leadership capability, including mentoring others and contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.Relevant tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, economics, health management or similar (desirable).
