About The Opportunity

South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) - Psychiatry to provide high quality services within the Older People's Mental Health Services (OPMHS) across the Macarthur/Wingecarribee facilities. This is a quinquennial (5 year) contract at 0.4 FTE, offering the opportunity to work across both metropolitan and regional settings within a supportive, collaborative and energetic multidisciplinary team environment. The role involves delilvering specialist psychiatric care for older people, supporting clinical teams, and contributing to service development and improvement. From February 2026, the successful applicant will supervise a psychiatry registrar, playing a vital role in education, training and the development of future psychiatrists. What You'll be doing

Provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a SWSLHD facility under your care. This care will be provided within the clinical privileges granted by the Chief Executive (CE) on the advice of the SWSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).

* Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Health Insurance Act 1973 and Certificate of Advanced Training in Old Age Psychiatry (RANZCP).
* Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice
* Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
* Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff
* Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education/ continuing professional development
* Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of a public health organisation, including the provision of services to the local community, effective utilisation of resources, and preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at an LHD level
* Preparedness to participate in a hospital, service or LHD on-call roster
* Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners and in a multidisciplinary health care team.
* Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
