The Role
(Manager Compliance and Monitoring, Level 7)
* Leads the development and implementation of compliance and monitoring frameworks and plans to support alignment with legislative requirements and promote good governance in the local government sector.
* Manages a small team to deliver compliance initiatives including self-assessment tools, sector guidance, reporting templates and capability-building activities.
* Oversees the collection and analysis of compliance data to identify risks, trends and opportunities for targeted support or engagement.
* Coordinates and manages compliance and early intervention tasks including the Annual Compliance Audit Return (CAR) process involving liaison with local governments, undertaking compliance checks, and preparation of related reports.
* Provides high-quality advice and recommendations to the General Manager and the Inspector based on evidence gathered through monitoring audit reports, local government activities and stakeholder input.
* Engages with stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of compliance expectations, tools and continuous improvement opportunities.
(General Manager Governance and Compliance, Level 8)
* Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of all governance, compliance, monitoring, communications and policy functions supporting the Inspector’s statutory objectives.
* Delivers compliance planning and risk-based monitoring frameworks, including sector-wide initiatives such as the annual Compliance Audit Return and thematic compliance assessments and reporting.
* Ensures integrity of compliance frameworks.
* Leads internal coordination and prioritisation of regulatory support and non-investigative sector engagement activities in line with the Inspector’s regulatory strategy and public accountability obligations.
* Oversees the delivery of education strategies across local governments that promote a proactive compliance culture and support consistent sector understanding of statutory requirements.
* Provides strategic advice to the Inspector on compliance trends, governance risks, and opportunities for proactive engagement and early intervention.
Qualifications & Licenses
(Manager Compliance and Monitoring, Level 7)
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as governance, public policy, compliance, or public administration would be advantageous.
(General Manager Governance and Compliance, Level 8)
* Tertiary qualifications in public policy, law, governance, public administration or a related discipline would be desirable.
* Current Western Australian C or C-A class drivers’ licence) or equivalent
