The Whitsunday region offers a dynamic environment and is perfectly placed to live, work, play and invest.Your opportunity:We are seeking an experienced Accounting Officer to provide expertise and advice pertaining to Council's financial requirements whilst ensuring all work is completed in accordance with accounting standards and legislation.Key Responsibilities:Act as Council's representative when dealing with Council's insurance underwriters, brokers, legal representatives and claimants in relation to any insurance claims.Preparation and coordination of Council's Annual Insurance Renewal Proposals for the placement of all classes of insurances held by Council.Prepare and monitor Council's fringe benefits tax liability and provide advice of strategic opportunities.Assist the Coordinator in overseeing the functions performed by Financial Services Officers including providing support and training.Investment Register maintained and assessments undertaken regularly on opportunities to maximise Council's return on investment.Assist the Coordinator in maintaining the Banking Signatories Register for all Council Banking Institutions.Assist the coordinator in managing the day-to-day banking transfers, BPays, liaising with banks, file uploads for payroll, accounts payable and direct debits and resolving payment disputes.Perform treasury management functions between bank accounts.Your skills and experience:EssentialC Class Manual Drivers Licence.Tertiary Qualifications in Business, Accounting or equivalent relevant discipline, or three (3) years or more experience in a suitable accounting position.Demonstrated application of technical experience and a minimum of three (3) years' experience in financial processes for as tax, insurance and treasury, including legislative requirements of Local Government.Significant experience in a role with similar key responsibilities within a medium to large size Council.Proficient in the use of Technology One, Civica (Authority) and MyData (Assetic) / Brightly software.DesirableHigh level of developed skills in Microsoft Excel.Detailed knowledge of FBT and other Tax Laws and practice.Working knowledge and experience of insurance claims and processing.Join the team:To view the position description please click on the job attachments tab above.
