**Your new company**
A diverse Government directorate delivering essential services Canberrans rely on daily. They are responsible for the management of urban trees, public open spaces and public open spaces and city places including maintenance of shops, domestic animal services, animal welfare and other licensing and compliance services including ranger services and permits for public land use. They also manage roads, footpaths, streetlights and cycle paths.
**Your new role**
As team member of the Road Maintenance crew, you will participate in daily road maintenance activities ensuring that they work safely adhering to all standard operating procedures. This is a contract until December with possibility of extension. Duties of a Road Maintenance Worker include, but are not limited to:
- Traffic control
- Operation of a range of road maintenance plant and equipment, generally including mechanical broom, paver or compaction machinery
- Pothole repair, paving and profiling works and emulstion spraying or minor maintenance of driveways and footpaths
- Shovelling and raking and cleaning up of oil spills, broken glass debris, fallen vegetation etc.
- Line marking duties
- Sign manufacture or installation
- Planning and estimating of road maintenance or minor related works including site measurement
- Ensure all vehicles, machinery and equipment is well maintained, kept in good operational condition and assist in keeping the RM works yard and buildings clean and tidy at all times.
- Carry out general and minor maintenance of road maintenance equipment and machinery or report mechanical problems to the Works Supervisor.
- Participate in on-the-job training for new and existing staff members on the correct and safe operating procedures for equipment and machinery, as directed by the Works Supervisor.
- Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); report any incidents in a timely manner; use all workplace equipment in accordance with any instruction given to ensure safe and proper use and participate in WHS inspection programs and comply with correction action results.
- This position does not involve direct supervision of staff.
**What you'll need to succeed**
The following capabilities form the criteria that are required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Demonstrated experience in road maintenance practices and procedures
- Competency to operate machinery associated with road maintenance operations
- Permanent resident of Australia
- Driver's license / MR License is essential
- White Card
- Asbestos Awareness
- First Aid / Traffic Control is desirable but NOT essential
- This position WILL require a pre-employment health assessment
