Power Systems Protection Technician – Entry Level, Permanent, South Metro Depot (Forrestdale, WA, AU)
We invite you to join Western Power's clean‐energy future as a member of our expert team. This full‐time role is based at our brand‐new South Metro Depot, a modern 120,000 sq. m. facility with advanced infrastructure and technology.
Your Role in Action
As a Power Systems Protection Technician, you will perform commissioning and maintenance on Transmission and Distribution Power System Protection Systems, both inside and outside of Western Power's business. Your responsibilities include:
* Developing low‐level work scopes and schedules for secondary system projects.
* Planning, supervising, coordinating, and carrying out installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and repair of secondary equipment and systems.
* Conducting technical inspections, preparing reports with recommendations, and arranging necessary action.
* Managing low‐level CAPEX and OPEX projects, ensuring alignment with estimates, quality, resources, and timing.
* Executing low‐level specialist technical tasks and secondary system activities for your team and external stakeholders.
* Providing advice on protection circuit maintenance and processes of low‐level complexity.
* Commissioning low‐level system impact protection circuits and primary plant without supervision.
* Checking and assessing designs, calculations, estimates, specifications, working drawings, and schedules.
What Makes You a Great Fit
* Current "A" Grade Electrical Workers License (essential).
* At least four years of strong experience in the field protection environment, focusing on maintenance and commissioning activities.
* Basic understanding of Transmission & Distribution operational system configurations and requirements.
* Experience with protection maintenance, commissioning inspection, and testing practices.
* Basic knowledge of secondary equipment maintenance and commissioning practices.
* Basic familiarity with IEC‐based substation automation.
* Knowledge of Western Power's work standards and practices.
* Complete knowledge of and compliance with safety regulations and practices.
* Valid WA Driver's License ClassC or C‐A.
