Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia – Perth WA

The Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA) is the peak body representing and supporting independent schools in Western Australia. With 166 member schools enrolling over 90,000 students, AISWA plays a key role in advocating for and supporting the independent school sector.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Consultant, Primary Education. The primary focus of this role is to provide expert leadership, guidance and professional support to AISWA member schools to improve student achievement in literacy and numeracy. The Consultant builds school and teacher capacity by delivering high-quality professional learning, supporting evidence-based instructional practices and promoting contemporary pedagogical approaches aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum and national initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

* Strategic Support & School Improvement
o Partner with school leaders and teaching teams to develop whole-school literacy and numeracy plans that align with data-driven improvement strategies.
o Provide consultancy services to schools, including audits, needs analysis, and targeted implementation support.
o Assist schools to analyse achievement data, including NAPLAN, On-entry Assessment and other classroom assessment tools, to inform teaching and learning priorities.
* Professional Learning & Capacity Building
o Design, deliver, and evaluate professional learning events, webinars and programs for teachers and education assistants.
o Model high-impact instructional practices aligned with current research, including inquiry-based learning, explicit teaching and structured approaches to literacy and numeracy acquisition.
* Curriculum & Pedagogical Expertise
o Provide advice on curriculum implementation, assessment, and reporting requirements specific to Western Australian independent schools.
o Maintain deep knowledge of current research, policy, and reform agendas relating to literacy and numeracy (e.g. NAPLAN changes and Version 9 curriculum shifts).
o Develop and curate resources, exemplars and toolkits to support member schools.
o Demonstrate deep understanding of inquiry pedagogies, integrated learning design, and cross-curriculum planning that enhances student engagement, conceptual understanding and application of literacy and numeracy skills in meaningful contexts.

Key Selection Criteria

* Substantial relevant teaching experience in schools and/or other educational settings.
* Sound knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum and the Western Australian Curriculum for English, Mathematics, and associated national and state education policy.
* Experience in planning, delivering and evaluating professional learning for diverse audiences.
* Strong knowledge of educational trends, standards, pedagogical theories, research, and frameworks.
* Demonstrated ability to lead literacy and numeracy programs and initiatives.
* Proven ability to apply continuous improvement processes to strengthen programs and improve outcomes.
* Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
* Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in current educational technologies and their integration into curriculum and pedagogy.
