TSRA is the lead Commonwealth agency for Indigenous Affairs in Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait).
We're the northernmost region of Australia, where beautiful red dirt Country meets turquoise waters.
Located in the nation's far north between Cairns and Papua New Guinea, we support programs across the Torres Strait region, including for the 17 inhabited islands of the Torres Strait and the communities of Bamaga and Seisia on the Northern Peninsula Area.
We're a federal government statutory body and operate under the direction of a community-elected board.
The work of the team
The Executive Officer sits within the TSRA Governance and Leadership Program. This role is pivotal in ensuring the effective coordination of the Chairperson's engagements, communications, and strategic relationships, both internally and externally.
The position requires a proactive, highly organised individual with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
The Governance and Leadership team works to:
* Engage Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal leaders in legislative processes, policies, and priorities.
* Build capacity for current and future leaders.
* Enhance regional communication to ensure effective information sharing.
* Coordinate government service delivery for greater integration across the region.
* Improve TSRA's governance and leadership capacity to support long‐term effectiveness.
We are looking for individuals with:
* Demonstrated experience providing high quality office-management support to senior executives, including the ability to relate well to people at all levels and manage conflict effectively
* Excellent attention to detail, demonstrated through an ability to set, monitor and maintain quality standards, methodically and achieve goals in a timely way
* The ability to tactfully probe for further information to understand a problem; then make rational judgements to develop workable solutions
* Strong writing skills, with the ability to present information in a clear, convincing and logical way
* An understanding of the requirements of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, and skills in/willingness to learn and apply government procurement and financial transparency rules consistently.
* The ability to keep calm under pressure and maintain strong performance, respond positively to a changing environment, and to consistently show respect for people and culture.
* Highly motivated, with a strong commitment to the Australian Public Service (APS) values.
