Primary objective

As a member of a team, and under professional supervision, provide services to children, young people, families, and carers

aimed at reducing the risk of harm to children, in accordance with the Department of Children and Families policies and

procedures and the Care and Protection of Children Act.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Under supervision, plan and deliver family support, out of home care, and protective services to Aboriginal children,

young people and their families, using casework, group work and community work methods.

2. Foster positive links and networks within and between the Department's Program, other services/agencies, and

Aboriginal communities.

3. Ensure the availability of reliable data through the accurate and timely recording of information on the Department of

Children and Families client information and case management systems.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Certificate IV in Community Services, or equivalent.

2. Experience living within the framework of Aboriginal cultural values and lifestyles, and representing these Indigenous

perspectives, in addition to a demonstrated knowledge of cultural issues, including social, economic, and political issues,

affecting the delivery of welfare services to Aboriginal peoples.

1. Ability to undertake work in the community services industry and demonstrated ability to communicate appropriately

with a range of health/welfare clients and colleagues, including preparation of reports and written correspondence.

1. Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver culturally appropriate services, which strengthen community capacity so that

families can provide for family members with minimum dependence on external agencies.

1. Preparedness to travel by 4WD/light plane and stay overnight in remote communities where applicable.
2. Computer skills, or a willingness to undertake computer skills training.

7. A current Northern Territory Drivers Licence.

Desirable

1. Ability to speak a local Aboriginal language

Further information

The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current Working with Children Clearance notice and

undergo a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is a relevant

criminal history.
