HR Manager – Automotive | Hands-On Leader & Trusted Business Partner
Drive People, Performance, and Culture Across a Growing Statewide Dealership Group
This is not a desk-bound HR role.
We're looking for a commercially savvy, hands-on HR Manager who thrives in fast-paced, operational environments and wants to make a genuine impact across a multi-site statewide automotive dealership group.
Reporting to the national Head of HR for the Tony White Group, you'll be at the centre of the business—partnering with Dealer Principals and leaders, and leading a small HR function that keeps our people and operations moving.
The Opportunity
In this highly visible role, you'll combine strategic thinking with practical delivery. One day you might be coaching a Service Manager through a performance issue; the next, you'll be tackling recruitment challenges in a competitive technician market. Operationally, you will also work with the HR team across a range of transactional activities, such as preparing employment contracts, managing workers compensation claim processing, or providing day to day Award advice.
You'll lead a small, geographically dispersed HR team and ensure consistent, high-quality support across the entire employee lifecycle.

What You'll Be Doing
You'll play a critical role in supporting business performance through people by:
1. Partnering with Leaders
Acting as a trusted advisor to Dealer Principals and Managers, providing clear, pragmatic HR guidance
2. Leading End-to-End HR Delivery
Staying hands-on across recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations
3. Supporting a Multi-Site Workforce
Driving consistency across dealerships, where appropriate, while adapting to operational realities
4. Managing Workforce Challenges
Tackling high-volume recruitment, particularly for technicians and apprentices, and supporting retention strategies
5. Leading and Developing the HR Team
Building capability and ensuring responsive, consistent service delivery
6. Driving People Initiatives
Contributing to engagement, leadership development, and process improvement
7. Ensuring Compliance
Providing expert guidance on employment legislation, Modern Awards, and employee relations risk
About You You're not afraid to roll up your sleeves and get involved. You're a confident HR generalist who:
* Brings solid experience in a complex, multi-site or operational environment
* Has strong working knowledge of Australian employment law and Modern Awards
* Is comfortable handling complex employee relations and performance matters
* Can switch between strategy and hands-on delivery with ease
* Builds credibility quickly with both leaders and frontline teams
* Leads with a practical, solutions-focused mindset
