Job Overview
Located on Western Australia's stunning south coast, Esperance is known for its breathtaking beaches, national parks and welcoming community. This is a unique opportunity to tell the stories of one of the country's most distinctive regional areas. ABC News is looking for a Reporter to join our Regional WA team. You'll be part of a small, dedicated editorial team covering the Goldfields & Esperance region, working under the direction of the local Editor. This role is based in our Esperance bureau and contributes to coverage across all ABC News platforms.
The Job
* Generate original, relevant stories that reflect the cultural, geographic and socioeconomic diversity of regional Australia.
* Actively engage with local communities to find, develop and tell meaningful stories.
* Create content for multiple platforms, including radio, digital, social and TV for local and national audiences.
* Produce bulletins, interviews, Q&A, news packages and breaking news as required.
* Contribute to planning and commissioning processes to deliver strong reach and engagement.
* Support local emergency broadcasting and communicate with key stakeholders when required.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to identify content that can be shared across News and broader ABC platforms.
About You
You're a journalist passionate about regional storytelling, with strong editorial judgement and the ability to connect with diverse communities.
You'll have
* Strong editorial ability, including sourcing, verifying, analysing information and making sound judgement calls.
* A proven creative approach to storytelling, with experience in live presentation and broadcast.
* A solid understanding of issues affecting local communities in Regional WA.
