Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow – Quantum Algorithms (Decarbonisation)
Full-time fixed‐term position for up to 3 years with the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
Join the Queensland Quantum Decarbonisation Alliance (QDA) within the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science to carry out research on quantum algorithms, error correction and fault‐tolerant architectures with applications to decarbonisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, analyse and publish high‐quality research on quantum and hybrid quantum–classical algorithms for decarbonisation use cases, including simulation, combinatorial optimisation, machine learning, data analysis or quantum computational sensing.
* Lead the co‐design of algorithms, quantum error correction and fault‐tolerant architectures tailored to specific use cases; perform resource estimation and devise creative approaches to reduce overhead.
* Work with domain experts from industry, government and academia to formulate high‐impact computational use cases and benchmark problems and track progress toward quantum advantage.
* Support research training through co‐supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students and contribute to quantum‐algorithms training within EECS.
Qualifications
* PhD in a relevant field (Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or related to quantum computing).
* Growing profile in research in quantum computing, demonstrated by a track record of publications in refereed journals and presentations at conferences.
* Demonstrated research creativity and development of algorithms applicable to decarbonisation (simulation of classical or quantum systems, optimisation, ML, sensing).
* Experience analysing quantum algorithms, proving bounds, or estimating resources in an error‐corrected and fault‐tolerant setting.
* Capacity to supervise and mentor Honours and Higher Degree by Research students to successful completion.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts to academic, industry and stakeholder audiences.
* Well‐developed interpersonal and leadership skills, contributing positively to academic research culture.
Additional Qualifications for Level B
* Demonstrated capability to initiate, lead and complete research projects with intellectual independence and effective collaboration.
* Extensive experience supervising and mentoring students to successful completion and a record of effective research training.
* Track record of seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
* Experience in meaningful internal service roles.
