Flaming North Fire Protection is a well-established fire protection company servicing clients across North Queensland since 2003. Operating from Townsville and Cairns, we specialise in the inspection, maintenance, installation and compliance of essential fire safety systems across commercial, industrial and government facilities.
As part of our continued growth and commitment to operational excellence, Flaming North Fire Protection is currently undertaking a major uplift of its governance and compliance frameworks, including working towards ISO certification for Quality (ISO 9001), Environmental Management (ISO 14001), and Occupational Health and Safety (ISO 45001).
We are seeking a motivated and capable HSEQ Advisor to support this journey and help strengthen our systems, processes and safety culture across the organisation.
About the Role
Reporting to the management team, the HSEQ Advisor will play a key role in developing, implementing and maintaining the company's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Management Systems including its Maintenance and Fleet Management and Compliance.
A primary focus of the role will be assisting the business in preparing for ISO accreditation, ensuring systems, documentation and operational practices align with regulatory requirements, Australian Standards and industry best practice.
This role will work closely with technicians, apprentices and management to support safe work practices, compliance obligations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the ongoing development and implementation of an Integrated Management System (IMS) aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
* Support the organisation in preparing for ISO certification and external audits
* Develop, review and maintain policies, procedures, SOPs, SWMS and risk registers
* Conduct internal audits, compliance inspections and workplace safety reviews
* Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions
* Maintain risk, environmental and compliance registers
* Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings and safety communications
* Assist with training coordination, inductions and competency tracking
* Provide guidance to field technicians on safe work practices and legislative requirements
* Monitor contractor compliance and site safety practices
* Support environmental initiatives including waste management, hazardous substances and environmental controls
* Assist management with continuous improvement initiatives and compliance reporting
About You
You are a proactive, self-starter and organised HSEQ professional who enjoys implementing and improving systems, engaging with operational teams and supporting safe work practices. Able to hit the ground running, conducting gap analysis and able to successfully close gaps as identified.
You will bring:
* Experience in a Health, Safety, Environment and Quality role
* Knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management and compliance frameworks
* Strong documentation and organisational skills
* Experience supporting audits, investigations and compliance activities
* Experience in document and system development and implementation, to meet ISO requirements.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both office and field staff
* Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Experience in fire protection, construction, trades or service industries
* Knowledge of Australian Standards relating to fire protection systems (AS1851, AS2441, AS2293 etc.)
* Experience developing or maintaining ISO management systems
* Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety, Environmental Management or Quality Management
* Experience with safety management software or document control systems
* Experience with cloud-based IMS SkyTrust (Desirable)
* Proficient in Microsoft packages
