Events ACT is seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Director, Commercial to join our team. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in the commercial success of some of Canberra's most iconic events—from Floriade and Enlighten Festival to the Canberra Balloon Spectacular, New Year's Eve celebrations, and more.
As the Assistant Director, you will develop and manage strategies that secure partnerships, sponsorships, and revenue streams to support the delivery of high-quality events. From negotiating sponsorship agreements to overseeing ticket pricing strategies and vendor fee structures, you'll ensure our events are not only memorable but also financially sustainable.
You will bring:
* Proven experience in sourcing and managing sponsorships and partnerships, including developing compelling proposals and pitches.
* Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.
* Knowledge of public sector financial principles and procurement regulations.
* Leadership experience with the ability to guide and motivate a team.
* A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
Desirable
* Qualifications in sponsorship, marketing/PR/Communications, business management or related field.
* Proven sponsorship sales, partnership and relationship management and stakeholder experience.
* Sound knowledge and understanding of the local and national sponsorship market and the events industry.
* Current Australian driver's license.
* Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays and evenings on occasion and during key event periods.
Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of up to six months.This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only.
Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
Please note, this position will be moving to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
