About the Role
As a Whartons Underground Shift Boss, you'll be the frontline leader turning the underground plan into reality.
You will:
* Own safe execution of the underground plan – development, production, services and ancillary tasks.
* Make sure work areas are safe, tasks are planned, briefed, executed and closed out by the book and by the law.
* Lead crews by being visible in the work areas, coaching, correcting and backing your people.
* Control risk and compliance – inspections, hazards, statutory reports and logbooks done properly and on time.
* Drive productivity and quality – metres, tonnes and cycle times on target, with minimal rework and clean-up.
* Communicate clearly – pre-starts, debriefs, handovers that actually mean something.
* Look after your people – fatigue, fitness for work, attitude, competency – and step in early when needed.
* Keep the paperwork sharp – shift reports, permits, checklists and downtime reasons that help us improve, not just tick boxes.
This is a hands-on leadership role, not a desk job.
Who We're Looking For
We're not after warm bodies. We're after underground professionals who:
* Are experienced Shift Bosses with solid time in hard rock underground.
* Hold a current Shift Supervisor / Shift Boss ticket (WA or equivalent, or close to it).
* Can run a crew safely and still hit the production targets.
* Are calm under pressure, strong on communication and discipline, and not afraid of hard conversations.
* Believe in integrity, mateship and excellence in every detail, and back it up in their behavior.
