About Trusted Autonomous Systems
TAS is an innovation and R&D; house uniquely equipped to deliver world-leading robotic and autonomous systems with artificial intelligence to enable trusted and effective cooperation between humans and machines. Our aim is to develop solutions that allow robotic and autonomous systems (RAS) to be deployed at scale in one-to-many applications and as part of complex human-machine teams, safely and effectively, to transform civil and military operations.
About the Position
You will develop sophisticated interface solutions for military commanders and civilian operators to intuitively, safely and effectively manage multi-robot systems at scale in real time in complex and demanding operational environments. The solution will allow a commander to provision multi-robot teams and teams-of-teams, plan for complex multi-robot missions and execute them in dynamic, high-tempo environments, whilst maintaining clear situational awareness and comprehensive control. Your solution will minimize cognitive load associated with managing large numbers of autonomous and semi-autonomous platforms and provide the end user with relevant and timely information to ensure situational awareness and enhance decision quality. You will develop an integrated, coherent but flexible interface capable of being rapidly adapted to specific mission types, be they military or civilian.
Your initial focus will be on a solution that can be used to manage tactical operations for ground and air robots in littoral terrain, and manage tactical surveillance operations for air, surface and underwater robots in the littoral. However, you will also support the development of software interfaces for managing multi-robot networks, supporting network provisioning, monitoring and maintenance.
As part of your professional work, you will be responsible for:
- Identifying and evaluating interface requirements in consultation with the team for TAS products,
- Developing design concepts, process flows and story boards/user stories consistent, including using digital whiteboards for ideation, journey mapping and UX workshops (eg Miro).
- Creating effective mock-ups/prototypes of potential UI using appropriate techniques (wireframing, prototyping) through Material Design and Atomic Design methodologies in mockup and structuring Figma Components Libraries
- Developing the UX/UI in a suitable tool (such as Figma), using variants, auto-layout and tokens in scalable systems.
- Evaluating the design in consultation with representative users for usability and appeal
- Working to mature the design to production as part of the broader, including producing training and manual material in support of product delivery
- Supporting corporate communication, client engagement and effective networking
- Setting the mission system user interface strategy for TAS as a forward leaning innovation company through active research into promising new approaches
You will work closely with the Lead of Multi-Robot Systems on mission software under the guidance of the Lead Software Engineer as part of ensuring that the mission management system is properly integrated into the CI/CD pipeline, and will adopt agile method where possible to align to the development cycle within TAS.
You will be based in Sydney, although a position in Brisbane will also be considered. This role will be remunerated in a range around $150,000-$170,000 plus superannuation, dependent upon the experience and skills of the successful applicant. The position is full-time ongoing.
About You
You must have a results-driven and proactive approach to development. To meet rapid development timeframes, you must be comfortable working collaboratively, making prioritisation decisions, and communicating risk. You are familiar with, or willing to learn about, command and control concepts and technologies as they apply to autonomous systems, heterogeneous teams, and Defence activities. You enjoy bringing new ideas to the table and combining them in robust ways with established concepts.
You will demonstrate flexibility in your contribution to development and deployment efforts and must be capable of ready discussion with stakeholders to ensure delivery in accordance with expectations. You should have sufficient experience to support independent work and the ability to make informed decisions on behalf of the software team to achieve project objectives.
