About The Coastal Voice
The Coastal Voice
is a not-for-profit, community newspaper serving the North West Coast of Tasmania. We exist to connect people, promote local stories, and support community groups, businesses, and organisations through accessible local media.
We are seeking a community-minded Editor to lead content coordination and help strengthen relationships across the region.
This role is ideal for someone who is retired, semi-retired, returning to work, balancing school hours, or looking for a flexible side hustle.
The Role
As Editor, you will act as the key point of contact between the newspaper and the community. You'll encourage, organise, and curate content rather than generate everything yourself.
This is a
contractual role
. You will need your own
ABN
and will be
reimbursed for your time
under a contractor arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
* Actively connect with
community groups, clubs, organisations, and local businesses
across the North West Coast
* Encourage contributors to submit articles, announcements, and updates
* Coordinate and review submitted content for each monthly edition
* Liaise with internal contractors (layout, admin, distribution)
* Ensure content aligns with the community values and tone of

* Help build and maintain long-term community and business relationships
About You
* Strong communicator, comfortable speaking with people from all walks of life
* Highly
community-minded
and relationship-focused
* Organised and reliable, able to work to a monthly deadline without pressure
* Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
* Prior editorial, journalism, communications, or community work experience is helpful but
not required
* Must hold (or be willing to obtain) an
ABN
