The Daily Aus is Australia's leading news source for young people. We make sense of the stories that matter, from interest rates to global markets, and we do it in a way that's accurate, accessible, and actually relevant to our audience's lives.

We're looking for a Finance, Business & Tech Journalist who is genuinely curious about economics, hungry to break stories, and excited by the challenge of making complex topics land with a young Australian audience.

The role

You'll be TDA's go-to journalist for all finance, business and tech stories, setting the editorial direction for the vertical and owning how it comes to life across our newsletter and social platforms. You'll sit within our editorial team, work closely with the News Editor and Editor-in-Chief, and act as TDA's authority on the economic stories that actually affect young Australians' lives.

Some days that means breaking news on a cash rate decision or covering the latest tech development that will shape our lives. Other days it means crafting a newsletter deep-dive that makes superannuation feel urgent and relevant to a 24-year-old.

What you do

• Pitch original economics and business story ideas in daily editorial meetings
• Monitor breaking news across finance, business, and tech, keeping TDA's coverage timely and authoritative
• Lead TDA's Finance, Business & Tech vertical, setting the editorial agenda and owning the beat across newsletter and social platforms
• Translate complex financial and economic topics into clear, compelling content tailored to each format, whether that's a long‐form newsletter explainer or a punchy social post
• Produce stories to an exceptional standard that are of significance to young Australians
• Build and maintain relationships with key sources including economists, analysts, founders, policymakers that give TDA's coverage an edge
• Be a team player who is willing to help the wider team where necessary

What you bring

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, economics or a related field
• Minimum three years of demonstrated experience in a related field
• Deep understanding of financial systems and economic policy
• Hunger to tell untold stories that matter to young Australians
• Strong writing skills and sharp attention to detail
• Ability to work in a fast‐paced environment
• Fluency across social media and digital platforms
• A passion for news and a commitment to accuracy and integrity
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
