**Your new role**
As the Associate Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Chief Operating Officer & Corporate Secretary by delivering comprehensive internal legal services that address a broad spectrum of the department's needs. You'll be instrumental in:
- Assisting in the drafting and provision of advice on legal risks, including statutory interpretation, administrative decisions, and matters related to Privacy & Data Protection, Contracts, Intellectual Property, and Property Law.
- Supporting procurement processes by drafting contracts and providing advice on procurement requirements.
- Reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, including IT contracts and licences.
- Handling Freedom of Information requests and managing data access in compliance with legal frameworks.
- Contributing to the development and delivery of legal training within the department.
- Engaging in various duties as needed, fostering an environment of legal excellence and compliance.
**What you'll need to succeed**
- Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner.
- At least 2 years of post-admission experience, ideally with mínimal supervision in a government or commercial legal practice or as part of an in-house legal team.
- Possession of a current Victorian practising certificate.
- Demonstrated expertise in procurement, commercial law, statutory interpretation, contract law, intellectual property, and information technology.
- A proven track record of ethical professional conduct and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and research skills coupled with robust business writing abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
- A deep understanding of public sector management and the capacity to excel within it.
