The Department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services. It provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross‑sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Role
This is an AH4, 0.6 FTE, fixed‑term SSS Team Leader position in Hume Merri‑bek from 1/1/26 to 31/12/26. The role is currently based with the Hume North team. The successful applicant will manage and lead a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals in the delivery of Student Support Services across schools in the Hume Merri‑bek Area.
Key Responsibilities
* Drive the implementation of evidence‑based initiatives and multi‑tiered systems of support across schools in collaboration with the Area and Divisional teams
* Address barriers impacting student learning, engagement, wellbeing and inclusion
* Contribute to the wider‑Area approach of building the capability of schools
* Provide professional guidance and advice to school and Area leadership, as well as team members
* Provide supervision and mentoring that supports the work of others
* Coordinate emergency management and critical incident response across schools and school communities
* Manage a small caseload of complex cases
* Engage with community service organisations and other professionals
Professional Qualifications
* Psychologist : Graduate or post‑graduate qualification in psychology and full registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Speech Pathologist : Graduate or post‑graduate degree in speech pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
* Social Worker : Graduate or post‑graduate degree in social work or equivalent and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
* Occupational Therapist : Graduate or post‑graduate qualification in occupational therapy and full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Key Qualities
* Expert advice : Provide collaborative advice that influences teaching and learning strategies and student wellbeing programs for school leadership.
* Leadership : Manage service delivery within a multidisciplinary Area‑based team and provide supervision and direction to team members.
* Communication : Highly developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills, liaising with a range of people in the education community and beyond.
* Flexibility : Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and autonomously when required.
* Collaborative approach : Work with other allied health professionals and schools to identify, develop and coordinate strategies that support all students.
Additional Requirements
* Must possess a current Australian Driver's Licence.
* Must have a valid Working with Children Check.
* Applicants may be required to complete a police check and may be subject to other pre‑employment checks.
Job Location
The position is based in the Hume Merri‑bek Area. The role requires travel to schools as part of service delivery. SSS staff have access to departmental fleet vehicles.
