Role Overview
The Finance Manager will develop the quality of the Finance function within the hotel and provide support and technical expertise to the other members of the team.
This role will be responsible for all accounting and financial requirements for the hotel in an environment of tight control, providing financial support, advice and expertise to the General Manager and hotel team, with the aim of maximizing value.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Control
Overall management of the accounting records and financial reports of the hotel, ensuring compliance with company, owner, statutory and fiscal requirements and timetables.
Include accounts for Hilton International's branch or subsidiary where applicable.
Ensure balance sheet reflects the assets and liabilities of the hotel.
Regularly review and reconcile all accounts.
Ensure compliance with management agreements with Hilton International, Owner/Lease agreements.
Maintain internal controls, providing effective control over hotel assets, liabilities, revenue and costs, aligned with company policy.
Control over hotel's assets, liabilities, income and expenditure on behalf of Operator and Owner, providing leadership for financial performance.
Ensure legal and tax compliance, maintain adequate insurance cover, manage pension scheme with proper accounting and legal controls.
Ensure valid permits and licenses for importation, currency transfers and hotel operations (bars, clubs, casinos etc.).
Safeguard and update all leases and contracts affecting the hotel's financial status.
Cooperate with Internal and External Audit to maintain an effective in-hotel audit program; take corrective action promptly.
Ensure all revenue is captured using monthly control checklists; conduct interim self-audits as required.
Develop best practice in financial accounting and control procedures; continuously review and improve reporting and control to maximize impact and efficiency.
Management Reporting
Develop high quality management information and performance measurement that is timely and accurate.
Implement reporting with benchmarking, identification of key performance indicators, balanced scorecard; include historical, forward outlook.
Ensure all corporate reporting is timely, accurate and internally consistent; reconcile financial reports to the trial balance and maintain proof of reconciliations monthly.
Business Support
Provide financial and commercial support to General Manager and hotel team, interpreting financial data.
Review management information, propose value added initiatives, challenge practices, and seek improvement.
Support business development initiatives, major pricing decisions and other commercial decision-making.
Information Technology & Systems
Support implementation of financial systems together with Project Managers.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of financial systems, including security and backup.
Guard data integrity within accounting system; correct errors at source and amend processes.
Develop usage of financial systems to improve reporting, processing, staffing efficiency and ROI.
Investment & Capital Planning
Utilize project evaluation techniques to direct investment for optimal returns.
Prepare annual capital plan and ensure funding is secured (e.g., from Owners).
Review AFE, ensure financial accuracy and obtain authorization before expenditure.
Perform post-investment audit on major capital projects; communicate results and action plans.
Ensure compliance with HI capital policy and control over project spend.
Prepare reviews for new developments and acquisitions where applicable.
Strategic Planning & Forecasting
Support General Manager in strategic planning, master-planning, and identifying value opportunities.
Manage budgeting process and approvals.
Maintain regular forecasting cycle with appropriate detail.
Provide alerts to Senior Management and Area Office via forecasts and reports.
Ensure consistent and accurate communication of future business trends.
Talent Management
Recruit, retain, and succession plan to ensure best people for roles; maintain good employee relations within Finance Department.
Maximize efficiency and staffing levels in accounting department.
Develop finance function through training and development; motivate team to high performance.
Set measurable objectives for feedback and appraisals.
Maintain personal career development plan; provide training to Management Team via Hilton University and Hilton LEXUE.
Cash & Working Capital
Minimize interest expense and working capital; manage debtors, stock, and receivables.
Maintain accurate cash flow forecasts one year ahead.
Reconcile all bank accounts weekly; maintain control over cash and bank balances.
Establish credit control and policy with GM and Commercial Director.
Ensure controls over accounts receivable; address issues.
Review accounts receivable monthly to identify recoverability issues.
Maintain reserve for doubtful debts.
Cost Management
Understand and measure cost drivers; provide analytical insight for management action.
Implement purchasing procedures to achieve cost-effective procurement.
Benchmark costs, identify cost reduction opportunities, manage financial risks.
Operate efficient and cost-effective Finance department.
Additional Notes
The Finance Manager reports to the General Manager and to Regional Finance Director; conflicts referred to Regional Ops VP and Regional Finance Director.
Appointment decisions made by Regional Finance Director/Area VP Finance with GM.
Finance Manager has unlimited access to all financial figures and may visit any department.
GM must consult Regional Finance Director/Area VP Finance on appraisal; bonus schemes agreed in advance.
Qualifications & Experience
University degree in Commerce, Accounting & Management or comparable accounting qualification.
Finance/Accounting major and certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA).
At least 5 years of relevant managerial operational accounting experience.
Fluent in English, spoken and written.
Proficiency in OnQ, Check SCM, SUN, OPERA, OnQPMS, MICROS, HRLINK.
Good communication and analytical skills.
Flexible working hours, especially at month and year-end.
