About our client
SandS Australia is recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established and highly regarded Australian organisation. With more than 50 years in business and a strong reputation for quality, they serve a diverse client base – spanning council and local government, corporate and retail clients – with operations across multiple states. Their workforce spans office, operations and field-based teams, and their people are at the heart of that success – and that's where you come in.
A newly shaped role to support their growth
As our client grows, so do the people challenges that come with it. We're looking for an experienced Human Resources Manager to take ownership of the people, performance and culture agenda and help build a loyal, high-performing team in a fast-paced, demanding and competitive industry.
This isn't a back-office admin role. It's a hands-on, manager-level position with real ownership – ideal for an experienced HR generalist who wants genuine influence and the flexibility of part-time hours.
Real influence from day one
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll be the go-to person for all things people – partnering with managers across the business, balancing strategic input with day-to-day support, and making decisions that visibly shape the workplace. You'll have the independence to run your own agenda and the support of an experienced leadership team behind you.
We know what good looks like – so apply if you're good!
We're after someone who can demonstrate a real track record of building engaged, productive, compliant workplaces. If you can coach managers through tricky conversations, keep the business on the right side of employment law, and lift the energy and loyalty of a team, we want to hear from you.
Great support to help you succeed
You'll be backed by an experienced Operations Manager, a capable Finance Manager who handles payroll, and a leadership team that values straight-talking, practical HR. You'll have the autonomy to propose and drive improvements – and the support to make them happen.
Your contribution to the team
This is what your work week will look like as you deliver your objectives:
* Providing strategic and operational HR input into business planning, and keeping leadership across changes in employment law and HR trends
* Managing end-to-end recruitment – advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, offers and contracts – and ensuring managers are ready for new starters
* Owning performance management: appraisal cycles, coaching managers through performance issues, and keeping processes fair, lawful and well-documented
* Building an enjoyable, close-knit, high-performing culture through day-to-day engagement, team events and the social club
* Managing diversity, EEO and bullying/harassment risk
* Linking appraisals to training plans, and delivering or arranging coaching in soft skills, difficult conversations and motivation
* Leading the OH&S committee, maintaining policies, coordinating training and rehabilitation, and driving accountability for workplace safety
* Keeping HR and OH&S policies, staff records and the HR intranet current, and leading HR projects as needed
The skills you'll need to deliver your objectives
What we require of you:
* Solid hands-on experience in a similar HR generalist or HR Manager role, ideally within a similar industry
* Strong working knowledge of national and state employment law, award interpretation and the National Employment Standards
* Experience across performance management, terminations, recruitment and induction best practice
* A track record of coaching managers and supervisors
* Confidence delivering training on EEO, bullying/harassment and diversity
* Sound knowledge of general OH&S, workers' compensation and rehabilitation
* Advanced Microsoft Word and Excel
* A relevant degree in human resources, training, behavioural sciences or commerce
Added advantages:
* Specialist OH&S knowledge (site audits, manual handling, working at heights, electrical)
* Website / intranet / social media skills
You're a straight-talking, level-headed communicator who values honesty, work ethic and innovation, can see the whole picture and make sound judgement calls under pressure, and mixes just as easily with frontline and operations staff as with senior managers.
Please note that due to an anticipated high volume of responses, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Only those with an unrestricted visa to live and work permanently in Australia can be considered.
Our client is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity in the workplace.
