Taronga is looking for an experienced, driven and motivated Nutrition Officer to join our nutrition team, in a full-time position, starting May 2026.

* Located at Taronga Western Plains Zoo – Wiradjuri Country
* Ongoing, full time position
* TCSA Salaried Employees Award, Genscale 10, Annual Salary Package $81,353 (includes annual base salary $71,777 + 12% superannuation)

About The Role

In the role of Nutrition Officer, you will deliver high quality customer service practices for our animal collection, staff and visitors. The Nutrition Officer ensures the zoo's animals receive safe, high‐quality, and nutritionally appropriate food by preparing diets, managing inventory and suppliers, and maintaining strict food safety and hygiene standards. Join a unique and dynamic team providing fundamental care and service to TWPZ's animal collection.

Key Accountabilities

* Prepare diets to meet nutritional needs of TWPZ's animal collection.
* Manage inventory, including receipting, ordering, handling, issuing, stock taking and storage of food products to adhere to policies and procedures.
* Liaise and co‐operate with stakeholders both within and outside the organisation to achieve divisional goals and to escalates issues as necessary to maintain food safety and quality standards.
* Maintain a clean and hygienic food preparation area, and ensure equipment is maintained to remain compliant with current food safety, and worker health and safety protocols.
* Provide expedient and safe delivery of stockfeed items throughout the zoo, utilizing available infrastructure and resources.
* Work effectively as a member of a high performing team, including peers and students, to assist Taronga in its achievement of strategic outcomes.
* Comply with sustainability practices in the workplace to help achieve Taronga's sustainability targets and reduce environmental impact.
* Comply with and report any Work, Health and Safety incidents in line with Taronga's Work, Health and Safety Charter.

About You

* Perform tasks requiring a high level of physical capability, including loading and delivering stockfeed items throughout the zoo and preparing fruit and vegetable, as well as carnivore diets in a preparation room facility.
* Demonstrate experience in a number of food preparation procedures, including butchery, and an understanding of perishable food storage.
* Effectively communicate with a vast number of different people on numerous levels. This position deals directly with all Wildlife Operations staff, other zoo staff, suppliers, delivery drivers, students and visiting public on a daily basis.
* Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
* Hold a current NSW Drivers License or ability to have existing license formally recognised, including demonstrated capability to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
* Hold a current NSW Forklift License (National License to Perform High Risk Work) and demonstrate experience and capability.
* This position requires pre‐employment Q fever screening/vaccination.
* Hold an MR (Medium Rigid) truck licence (desirable).
* Obtain and maintain a current paid NSW Working with Children Check at own expense.
