As the primary advisor on all matters relating to the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and privacy compliance, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across a diverse portfolio. You’ll work directly with executive stakeholders, lead the organisation’s response to sensitive information requests and breaches, and guide internal practice in line with evolving legislative obligations. This role demands strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, high-trust environment. About the Role In this key position, you’ll be responsible for: Managing and responding to a backlog of Freedom of Information requests, ensuring compliance with statutory timeframes Providing advice on privacy breaches, information sharing and compliance, including reporting to relevant authorities (e.g. OVIC) Supporting the development and improvement of internal FOI and privacy policies, processes, and reporting Collaborating with internal stakeholders across business units, while confidently navigating low-process environments Acting as a trusted advisor in navigating sensitive issues, including family and domestic violence–related privacy concerns About You To succeed in this role, you’ll bring: Solid experience in FOI and Privacy functions, ideally within government, public entities or regulatory environments Strong working knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and relevant Privacy legislation Experience managing FOI applications and privacy investigations from end-to-end, including OVIC or VCAT appeals Strong communication skills and a confident, independent working style What’s on Offer VPS 6level equivalent Immediate start with an initial contract term (covering extended leave) Hybrid work model with on-site days in Melbourne’s inner west A visible role in a supportive legal/governance function, where your impact will be felt across the organisation.
