We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Engineer to play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence, leadership, and strategic decision-making. As the second-in-command (2IC) to the Head of Engineering, you will lead initiatives, mentor team members, and ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and collaboration across teams to achieve business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the second-in-command (2IC) to the Head of Engineering, assisting in strategic planning, decision-making, and technical leadership.
* Lead, mentor, and coach engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
* Design, implement, and manage complex infrastructure systems that are secure, scalable, reliable, and aligned with performance and best practice requirements.
* Undertake project work to design, plan, and implement solutions for our customer’s Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.
* Respond to security incidents, conduct investigations, and implement mitigation measures.
* Develop and deliver cybersecurity training and awareness programs for end users.
* Identify and resolve system infrastructure issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures to minimize downtime.
* Manage performance of compute, storage, network, and backup infrastructure, including root cause analysis and preventive measures.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet infrastructure needs.
* Provide guidance and mentorship within support, engineering, and sales teams.
* Create and maintain documentation on system architecture, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
* Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
* Advocate for emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance productivity and efficiency.
* Serve as a key contact for technical escalations, problem-solving, and critical decisions.
Qualifications
* 8+ years of experience as a Senior or Lead Systems Engineer.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft infrastructure systems and best practices.
* Deep understanding of networking, operating systems, cloud, and data center environments.
* Proven ability to mentor and lead teams in dynamic environments.
* Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field.
* Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solution Architect, Identity and Access Administrator, or Enterprise Administrator).
Preferred Experience
* Experience with Azure (VMs, networking, Recovery Services Vault, Site Recovery, Managed SQL, Web Apps, Monitoring, Security, Sentinel, EASM).
* Windows Server core roles and features.
* Microsoft SQL and IIS administration.
* Microsoft 365 services (Entra ID/AzureAD, Global Secure Access, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Intune, Defender XDR, Teams Telephony).
* Security tools such as Rapid7, Mimecast, Proofpoint, Phriendly Phishing.
* Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet offerings (advantageous).
* Automation skills (PowerShell, PowerAutomate, IaC – Bicep, Terraform).
* VMWare vCenter, Citrix VDA, Netscaler, XenServer, SAN technologies.
* Backup solutions like Commvault and Veeam.
Additional Qualifications
* Previous experience in a 2IC or equivalent leadership role.
* Experience within a Managed Services Provider (highly desirable).
* Strong track record of managing technical projects from start to finish.
* Deep understanding of system security, performance optimization, and maintainability best practices.
