Welder / Fabricator
A Welder Fabricator is a skilled tradesperson who combines welding and metal fabrication techniques to create structures, components, and products from metal. This role involves interpreting blueprints, cutting, and shaping metal, welding the pieces together, and ensuring the final product meets quality standards. They work with various tools and equipment, including welding machines, hand tools, and cutting torches.
Duties include: reading and interpreting welding plans and technical instructions; planning welding and assembly work by verifying material specifications and conformity; assembling parts and large or complex structures; and applying appropriate welding processes (e.g. SMAW, GMAW, FCAW) once assembly is complete. Applicants must have 5 years\' experience as a Welder/Fabricator and proficiency in various welding techniques (e.g., GMAW, GTAW) and experience with different types of metals. They will also have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, use hand tools, operate cutting and shaping equipment, and assemble metal components.
Welder
A Welder is a skilled tradesperson who joins metal parts together using heat and pressure. They work in various industries, including manufacturing, construction, and shipbuilding, using different welding processes to create strong and durable metal structures. Welders are responsible for interpreting blueprints, preparing materials, and using welding equipment to fuse metal components.
Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years\' experience as a Welder, with proficiency in various welding processes (MIG, TIG, stick welding, etc.), blueprint reading, material preparation, and an understanding of how tools and machinery work.
Vehicle Body Builder
A Vehicle Body Builder manufactures and repairs custom-built vehicle bodies, such as those for trucks, buses, caravans, and specialised vehicles. They work with various materials like metal, wood, and fiberglass, using tools like welding equipment, cutting, and shaping machinery, and hand tools to construct and modify vehicle frameworks and panels. They also install mechanical components and may be required to alter existing vehicles to meet specific requirements. Applicants must have at least 5 years\' experience as a Vehicle Body Builder. Further experience in related trades (e.g., boiler making, welding, and sheet metal work) can be beneficial, as well as a Certificate III in Automotive Manufacturing Technical Operation.
Mechanical Fitter
A Mechanical Fitter on trailers typically assembles, installs, maintains, and repairs the mechanical components of trailers, including suspension systems, brakes, and axles. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, using hand and power tools, and potentially welding. They also diagnose and troubleshoot issues, ensuring the trailer\'s mechanical systems function correctly and safely. Applicants will have at least 3 years\' proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter servicing and repairing trailer equipment, including suspension systems. They will also have proficiency in using hand and power tools, welding (potentially), and precision measuring instruments.
Vehicle Spray Painter
A Spray Painter of trailers involves preparing, painting, and finishing trailer surfaces using spray-painting techniques. Responsibilities include surface preparation (sanding, filling, masking), applying primer and topcoats, colour matching, and ensuring a high-quality finish. This role may also involve operating spray equipment, mixing paints, operating a forklift, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Applicants must have at least 3 years\' previous experience as a spray painter, particularly with trailers or heavy-duty vehicles. They will also have knowledge of painting techniques, colour matching, and surface preparation methods.
Metal Machinist
Metal Machinists will have proficiency in using machine tools, reading blueprints, and using precision measuring instruments. They will have at least 3 years\' previous experience as a Metal Machinist. They will also need strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues with machines and metal parts, along with a keen attention to detail to ensure precision and accuracy in their work. Physical stamina is important as the role may involve standing for long periods and lifting heavy materials.
