Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic School Concert Band Conductor (Years 5 to 12) and Year 5 Brass and Woodwind Teacher to join our dynamic and growing music department. The successful candidate will lead and develop the concert band, fostering a love for music, ensemble performance, and technical skill development. Additionally, the role includes teaching the Year 5 Brass and Woodwind program, with the potential for private lessons and opportunities to conduct a high school jazz band. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of various wind and brass instruments, a passion for teaching young musicians, and the ability to inspire students to achieve their full musical potential. The candidate must also possess good Christian values, ethics and be supportive of the Christian ethos of the College.
The Role:
1. School Concert Band Conductor:
• Direct the Concert Band: Lead rehearsals and conduct the primary school concert band, ensuring high-quality performance and fostering a positive, collaborative environment.
• Repertoire Selection: Curate age-appropriate and challenging repertoire that enhances the students' technical and musical abilities while engaging their creativity.
• Performance Planning: Organize and coordinate school concerts, assemblies, and other performance opportunities for the concert band throughout the academic year.
• Rehearsal Management: Prepare structured rehearsal plans that balance technical skill development with creative expression and teamwork.
• Encouragement and Motivation: Create a positive, supportive environment that encourages student growth, confidence, and enjoyment of music. 2. Year 5 Brass and Woodwind Program:
• Teaching Brass and Woodwind Instruments: Teach small group or individual lessons to Year 5 students, introducing them to the fundamentals of brass and woodwind instruments.
• Skill Development: Develop students' technical abilities, music literacy, and performance skills through engaging and tailored lessons.
• Program Management: Maintain a clear structure for the Year 5 program, ensuring that all students make measurable progress throughout the year.
• Communication: Regularly update parents and guardians on students' progress and achievement in the brass and woodwind program.
• Instrument Maintenance: Oversee the care and maintenance of school brass and woodwind instruments, ensuring they are in good working order.
3. Private Music Lessons:
• Private Lessons: Private instrumental lessons onsite for students focusing on tailored one-on-one skill development and performance preparation.
4. High School Jazz Band (Optional):
• Conduct Jazz Band (if applicable): Lead and rehearse a high school jazz band, focusing on jazz techniques, improvisation, and ensemble performance.
• Repertoire and Performance: Select diverse jazz repertoire that challenges students and provides opportunities for performance at school events, competitions, and community engagements.
• Jazz Technique Development: Teach students the fundamentals of jazz theory, rhythm, and improvisation, helping them build confidence as both soloists and ensemble members.
Essential Requirements:
o Expertise in teaching brass and woodwind instruments to primary school students.
o Proven ability to lead and conduct a concert band or similar ensemble.
o Ability to comply with child safeguarding policies.
o Current Blue Card.
o Experience or willingness to teach private music lessons.
Skills and Abilities:
o Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
o Passion for inspiring young musicians and fostering a lifelong love of music.
o Ability to manage and organize rehearsals, performances, and music programs.
o Ability to motivate and manage students in both group and individual settings.
