The Office of General Counsel (OGC), is led by the General Counsel and Executive Director, Risk & Compliance. OGC is part of the Vice-Chancellor and President’s portfolio and provides strategic legal advice, compliance oversight, and assurance functions across the university.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Investigator for this newly developed role in a brand-new function in OGC.

As the Investigator, you will play a critical role in supporting the University of Technology Sydney’s commitment to a safe, respectful, and legally compliant environment for all students, staff, and visitors. You will be responsible for leading and conducting independent, impartial, and trauma-informed investigations into alleged misconduct, discrimination, harassment, bullying, and gender-based violence. The Investigator steers the investigation, gathers and analyses evidence, conducts interviews, assesses facts, and prepares comprehensive investigation reports that inform decision-making and ensure procedural fairness.

Working under the guidance of the Manager, Investigations and the General Counsel and Executive Director, Risk and Compliance, you will contribute to the integrity of the university’s complaint handling and conduct management frameworks, ensuring alignment with legal obligations, university policy, and the National Code for the Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence.

About You

You are a critical thinker and emotionally intelligent collaborator with:

* Demonstrated ability to conduct impartial, trauma-informed and procedurally fair investigations.
* Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and policy frameworks. I.e. Fair Work Act 2009, Anti-Discrimination and Human Rights legislation, National Code for Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence
* A relevant tertiary qualification in law, criminology, social sciences, psychology, or a related field
* Familiarity with record management, case management systems, and evidence-handling protocols
* Experience interpreting and applying policies, procedures, and legislation in complex organisational settings

Desirable Criteria:

* Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or equivalent accreditation
* Additional training in trauma-informed practice, mediation, or conflict resolution
* Eligibility for, or membership with, a relevant professional body (e.g. Australian Association of Workplace Investigators, Governance Institute of Australia) is advantageous

Remuneration

Base Salary Range: $120,827 - $137,609(HEW 8) plus 17% superannuation

This role is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
