Located on Wonnarua Country at the gateway to the Hunter Valley, Maitland Regional Art Gallery is a dynamic art gallery serving the community and visitors to Maitland NSW.

Maitland Regional Art Gallery has a dedicated audience with over 120,000 visitors annually making our Gallery one of the most visited cultural destinations in the Hunter-region. Our Gallery presents award-winning exhibitions alongside engaging and varied public programs, educational offerings and an in-depth Arts Health program.

Our diverse and vibrant Collection includes over 8000 works by Australian and international artists and continues to grow through selected acquisitions and generous donations.

About the Role

The Senior Gallery Officer plays a key role in overseeing the weekend operations of Maitland Regional Art Gallery, ensuring an exceptional experience for all Gallery visitors.

With a focus on a premium visitor experience, the Senior Gallery Officer will be responsible for creating a welcoming and engaging space for Gallery visitors and overseeing the Gallery's front of house administration. Primary responsibilities will include directing and guiding Gallery Officers in the provision of all customer service functions at the Gallery, supervising the delivery of weekend programs and events, and acting as the escalation point for any operational issues that arise.

As the Senior Gallery Officer, you will also provide advice and knowledge to Gallery visitors on Gallery exhibitions and events and be responsible for ensuring the integrity and security of Gallery assets.

About You

To be successful in this role you will possess a Certificate IV in Arts Administration, Business Administration or equivalent demonstrated experience.

You will have proven experience in leading customer service delivery, supervising and mentoring a team, and resolving escalated issues in a cultural or gallery setting.

Excellent knowledge of visual arts, exhibitions and cultural mediation is highly sought after, as is outstanding stakeholder management and the ability to support visitor education.

Benefits

This is a permanent part-time role working 21 hours per week, each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Every three weekends there is flexibility in Gallery rostering to substitute a weekend day for a weekday, to provide applicants work life balance.

This position attracts an hourly rate of $42.57-$ % p.a. superannuation + penalty rates for hours worked on Saturday (25% loading) and Sunday (50% loading).
