Primary objective
The Senior Auditor is responsible for providing high level program development and delivery on governance issues for the
Department including supporting the development of risk management plans and audit programs, conduct and reporting on
audits and reviews and identifying, conducting and reporting on investigations.
Context statement
The Risk Management and Internal Audit Division have embedded a risk management framework throughout the agency at
all levels and covers the identification and management of operational and strategic risks. It also undertakes a program of
internal audits to provide an independent evaluation of the effectiveness of the control measures in place and to address all
identified risks associated with the agency's strategic and operational objectives.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level secretariat support to the Agency's Audit and Risk Management Committee including the
preparation of the agenda, keeping of minutes and other records and following up on action items.
2. Through consultation with program areas assist in the identification of key program risks and development of risk
management plans, and in partnership develop effective audit and risk management strategies.
1. Support the Director Risk Management and Internal Audit in the analysis of internal control and governance issues for
operational areas and the development of effective audit programs to address.
1. Plan, conduct, report and manage the ongoing conduct of audits and investigations including ensuring appropriate
record keeping and documentation.
5. Assist in the preparation and presentation of effective monitoring and reporting mechanisms to inform the senior
executive and the Audit and Risk Committee about the Agency's performance in achieving strategic audit objectives
and managing risk to inform decision making.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Knowledge of governance issues and their application in an organisational environment including assurance, consulting,
risk management and investigation related practices and processes.
2. Demonstrated sound interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly and fluently, both
orally and in writing.
3. Well-developed strategic, analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills with a high standard of personal integrity,
ethics and confidentiality.
1. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders to link
governance activities with the delivery of Divisional and departmental objectives.
5. An ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline.
2. Institute of Internal Auditors qualification or ability to attain such qualification.
