Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Urgent Care Service, Long Jetty, Central Coast Local Health District CCLHD.
The Urgent Care Service (UCS) is located in a purpose built facility at the Long Jetty Community Health campus. The UCS has been established to provide accessible care for Central Coast residents and visitors who might otherwise have presented to a hospital Emergency Department with urgent but non-life threatening illness or injury. Appointments are booked via Healthdirect.
The Service is open 7 days per week from 8am to 8pm and is staffed by a Medical Officer, Physiotherapist, Nurse Unit Manager, nursing and administrative staff. The UCS will provide care for approximately 40 patients a day, primarily triage category 4 and 5. The UCS will link into a network of community services and promote service integration for an improved patient journey and health care experience.
There is expected to be a wide range of acute presentations typical to General Practice, including but not limited to minor trauma, sports injuries, and acute illness.
The VMO Will
* Participate in 7 days a week roster during the hours 08.00-20.00 in split 4, 6, 8 or 12 hour shifts.
* Support the development of the UCS and facilitate a culture of learning and collaboration.
* Facilitate at a clinical level, linkages with other service providers servicing the CCLHD population including primary care / general practice.
This position may be extended beyond the initial two year period, subject to review of funding availability and policy requirements.
Applicants should be a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Visiting Medical Officer Determination.
Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District has strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Visiting Medical Officer Determination.

* Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted 19AB exempted provider number.
* Recognised qualifications: Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of General Practice Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine
* Appropriate experience to practice as a sole Senior Medical Officer
* Ability to work constructively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
* Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and supervise medical and surgical trainees, residents and medical students would be advantageous
* Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies.
* Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align to the NSW CORE values and CCLHD Values and Behaviours charter.
