Overview
ATSILS QLD LTD is a not-for-profit organisation delivering legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Queensland. Since 1972 we have grown to 24 offices across the state, supporting our mission to uphold justice and human rights. This role is for the ATSILS Toowoomba Office and seeks an experienced Criminal Law Legal Practitioner who is passionate about social justice and ready for extensive court work, including youth jurisdiction.
About You
* You must be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in Queensland and hold (or be eligible for immediate acquisition of) a current Practising Certificate.
* You will demonstrate a high level of professional service in all aspects of Criminal Law, covering both adult and youth jurisdictions.
* A current Driver Licence and willingness to drive for work are essential.
* Ideally, you will have a minimum of two years\' full-time post-admission experience, resilience to handle complex cases, and the ability to develop culturally sensitive service skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage your own workflows with a focus on delivering high-quality criminal law services without the pressure of billable-hours targets, in a family-friendly environment with flexible working hours.
* Provide criminal defence representation in a variety of courts, including youth jurisdiction, and advocate for clients with culturally sensitive service delivery.
* Engage in extensive court work as part of a large, community-focused practice.
