About the role
The Youth Worker, Out of Home Care, is responsible for providing care and support to children and young people living in out-of-home care or within at-risk families. Their role is to create opportunities for these young people to engage in age-appropriate activities that promote positive self-esteem, community inclusion, and healthy relationships with their family of origin, while also helping to maintain stable placements.
We are seeking two Fixed-Term, Full-Time Youth Workers (one position based in Logan and one on the Gold Coast) for a 6 month contract upon commencement. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years\' experience and be available to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and sleepovers. Availability for 10 days per fortnight is required.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with Out of Home Care colleagues, biological parents, carers, and practitioners to identify and meet each child\'s individual needs in line with their care plan.
* Ensure emotional well-being and safety in accordance with the Child Protection Act 1999.
* Apply an empathetic approach to support children affected by complex trauma and manage challenging behaviours respectfully.
* Promote positive behaviours and serve as a positive role model through engaging, purposeful activities.
* Support goal setting with young people, helping them work towards their personal hopes and aspirations.
* Foster healthy relationships with peers, carers, family, and other significant people.
* Facilitate safe contact and transport between young people and their families or significant others.
Qualifications, Credentials and Other Requirements
* Certificate IV or Diploma level qualification in Youth Work, Child, Youth and Family Intervention or Community Services.
* Current Queensland Driver Licence
* Current Licensed Care Service (LCS)
* Current Blue Card
* Current First Aid and CPR certificate
* Hope and Healing Framework Foundation Training.
About You
* Ability to engage children and young people in purposeful, goal-oriented interactions and activities to build competencies and life skills.
* Well-developed proactive communication and relationship-building skills with young people from diverse backgrounds.
* Experience working within a trauma-informed framework, with a strong understanding of child development and behavior affected by trauma.
* Understanding of family dynamics in the lives of children in care, especially related to child protection issues.
* Ability to support young people\'s participation in activities and promote development of age-appropriate independent living skills.
* Demonstrated effectiveness as a team member and contributor to team outcomes.
* Ability to work autonomously while knowing when to seek advice and authority.
* Flexibility to respond to crisis situations with careful consideration of risk and compliance.
* Commitment to adhere to Anglicare Children, Youth & Families\' philosophies, values, ethics, frameworks, policies, and procedures.
