Primary objective
The Honours and Awards Manager is a crucial and senior role within the Honours and Awards team. This role involves working in a fast-paced,
high-pressure environment, and requires an ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively as well as an ability to provide leadership and
mentoring to junior staff. The Honours and Awards Manager will report directly to the Executive Director.
Context statement
The Honours and Awards section of the Northern Territory Police Force is dedicated to recognising the exceptional efforts of our first responders
and support personnel. Honours, awards, and medals formally recognise individual achievements, reinforce standards, and promote a culture of
excellence.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Management of the day-to-day work group operations, assigning tasks and reviewing performance and output.
2. Provide expert procedural advice to the Administrator, Chief Minister, Ministers, Leader of the Opposition, Executive Management, NTG
agencies and other key stakeholders on honours and awards, protocol and ceremonial activities and requirements.
3. Develop and implement strategies for continued improvement of services delivered.
4. Provide management and guidance to ensure the delivery of human resources, procurement and financial delegations.
5. Manage multiple events and deadlines while maintaining open and effective relationships with a wide-ranging client base.
6. Manage the delivery of significant ceremonial events such National Police Remembrance Day.
7. Manage secretariat services for the Medal Eligibility Committee (MEC).
8. Work collaboratively across agencies and across jurisdictions to ensure delivery of consistent, accurate advice and services.
Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience with Australian Honours System and Internal Honours and Awards Systems.
2. Demonstrated experience in providing expert advice on principles and procedures of International and Australian protocol, hospitality and
ceremonial services to government and stakeholder groups.
3. Demonstrated experience in human resource, administrative and financial management frameworks in the Northern Territory public sector
or similar.
4. Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership and guidance within a team environment with the ability to work independently and
develop solutions.
5. Proven experience in managing multiple high-level projects with the ability to meet critical deadlines in an environment of continuous change.
6. High standard of written and oral communication skills and ability to handle complex issues in a sensitive environment.
7. Able to advance and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients including the Administrator's Office, Chief Minister,
Ministers, Leader of the Opposition, NTG agencies, Defence, and local government to enhance government, business and community ties.
8. Demonstrated political acumen, tact, discretion and the ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality.
Desirable
1. High level competency in the use of software such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and records management systems such as Content
Manager (TRM).
2. Demonstrated Event management experience.
3. Able to work outside of regular business hours when required and have a current NT Driver's licence.
