Brighton Council is continuing to grow, and so is our Regulatory Services team. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented casual to support our animal control function.

The Role
As our Casual Compliance Officer – Animal Control, you will help deliver a responsive, community-focused animal control and compliance service, supporting the Manager Regulatory Services and the broader Regulatory Services team by:
* Responding to customer enquiries and complaints relating to animal management matters.
* Investigating nuisance dog complaints and dog attacks, including gathering evidence and preparing reports and briefs.
* Seizing and impounding roaming and/or stray dogs (and other animals where required) in accordance with relevant legislation.
* Supporting dog registration and microchipping compliance across the municipality.
* Identifying and following up properties operating without kennel licences, including assisting with kennel licence assessments and renewals.
* Taking proportionate, evidence-based enforcement action under the Dog Control Act 2000, Council’s dog management policy and related legislation.
* Maintaining accurate records and documentation in Council systems, including preparing material for tribunal/court when required.
About You
You will hold a qualification in Government Investigations (Regulatory Compliance) and have a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in a comparable compliance or regulatory role.
You are an effective communicator and confident using Microsoft Office. You maintain a high standard of record keeping and have demonstrated experience in legal processes, report writing, and presenting information at tribunal hearings.
You will bring strong customer service skills, ideally gained in a local government or regulatory environment. You will also have sound knowledge of the Dog Control Act 2000 and related legislation, an understanding of dog behaviour and breeds, and the ability to safely handle animals—particularly dogs—in a local government setting.
You have proven communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, and experience working with multiple stakeholders to achieve practical, solutions-focused outcomes.
You are highly computer literate, thrive in a small team environment and can manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic workplace.
You bring a friendly, professional manner, along with strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.

Position Details:
* Hours: Casual Hours – working across Monday to Friday as required.
* Salary: Technical/Inspectorial Level 2-4: $65,572 to $87,433 per annum (approx. hourly rate range being $33.62 to $44.83) – to be negotiated with the successful candidate and will be dependent on qualifications and experience. This position will also attract 25% casual loading on top of the salary and a 12% superannuation entitlement.
