Level Playing Field Lawyers ("LPF") is a specialist construction and commercial litigation law firm based in Essendon. We act for builders, subcontractors, developers, owners corporations, insurers and private clients across Victoria and interstate.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Lawyer with 3–6 years PQE to join our expanding disputes practice.
The Role
This role is ideal for a lawyer looking to deepen their expertise in construction and building disputes, while working across a mix of forums including VCAT, the Magistrates' Court, County Court and Supreme Court.
You will work on matters including but not limited to:
Core Construction Work
* Domestic building disputes in VCAT and the courts (defective work claims, incomplete works, variations, delay, extensions of time, and breach of statutory warranties).
* Building defect claims involving builders, subcontractors, owners corporations and insurers.
* Insurance-related issues, including public liability, domestic building insurance (VMIA), indemnity disputes and coverage issues.
* Owners corporation disputes, including recovery of defect costs, building rectification issues, common property disputes and design/consultant liability matters.
Related Litigation Work
* Contract and commercial disputes in the County Court and Supreme Court (repudiation, debt claims, breaches of contract, misleading conduct).
* Joint venture, partnership and shareholder disputes involving property development and construction projects.
* Debt recovery and enforcement proceedings, including statutory demands, caveats, charges and enforcement steps.
Advocacy and Case Management
* Managing day-to-day file carriage, with appropriate supervision and mentoring.
* Briefing and liaising closely with counsel and construction experts (engineers, building consultants, quantity surveyors, forensic accountants).
* Attending mediations, directions hearings, interlocutory applications, compulsory conferences and settlement negotiations.
This role offers genuine responsibility, exposure to complex construction matters, and the opportunity to build strong relationships with repeat builder and developer clients. It will begin as full-time onsite at our Essendon office to help you properly onboard and find a rhythm with the team, then there’ll be an opportunity to work in a hybrid arrangement.
About You
You will be a lawyer with 3–6 years of post-admission experience, with a solid grounding in litigation. Ideal candidates will have:

* Experience in litigation, including handling interlocutory steps.
* Excellent written communication and drafting skills.
* High attention to detail and strong analytical ability.
* Ability to manage competing deadlines and maintain organised file management.
Highly Regarded
* Experience in domestic building disputes or commercial litigation.
* Familiarity with VCAT or County/Supreme Court procedure.
* Experience preparing briefs or expert instructions.
