As part of the Financial Planning & Reporting team, the Financial & Capital Accountant plays a key role in preparing the annual statutory financial statements for the Corporation of the City of Adelaide and its Subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with relevant Accounting Standards and legislative requirements. The role provides trusted financial planning, analysis and advice to the Capital Program, supporting effective financial management and decision‑making across Council’s major projects and programs.
The Financial & Capital Accountant partners with stakeholders to deliver accurate financial planning, management accounting and performance reporting that supports strategic outcomes. This includes maintaining the Council’s fixed asset register in line with the Australian Accounting Standards and internal policies, overseeing financial governance for projects and programs, and advising on the accounting treatment for grants and funding arrangements. The role also supports the preparation of taxation returns, including BAS and FBT, contributes to process improvement initiatives, and assists with ad‑hoc projects as required.
In addition to providing hands‑on financial support, the position plays an key role in building financial capability across the organisation through mentoring and training. This includes delivering financial system inductions and developing an understanding of management accounting principles and processes.
