* Full-time or part-time position for the right candidate

The Paspaley Pearls Group (PPG) is a family-owned group of companies which traces its corporate origins to 1953. Paspaley's core business is pearling, including pearl production, wholesale, and retail. However, the Group also has extensive interests in other sectors including marine engineering, commercial property investment and development, aviation, mixed agriculture, hotel accommodation, viticulture and wine making. Several of its businesses have an international dimension.
This newly created role is due to rapid growth and expansion across the Group, and the successful candidate will become a member of the PPG's in-house legal team, reporting to the General Counsel and working closely with other members of the legal team (a Legal Counsel and a Legal Secretary).
An opportunity to join a highly respected, collegiate in-house legal team working in a fast-moving environment to support the diverse commercial interests of an organisation such as the PPG does not come around often.
The successful candidate will provide legal advice and support to the Group's various Business Units in relation to transactional and regulatory matters, including compliance and legal risk management, across a range of legal disciplines including contract, corporate, consumer, property, competition, intellectual property, work health and safety, employment and environment law. As circumstances demand, the role can also include the supervision of litigation. Given the breadth of the PPG's business and operations, advice will be required across several Australian state and territory, as well as overseas, jurisdictions.
Demonstrated experience in one or more of these areas will be held in high regard.
The successful candidate will have the following:
* 8 + years PQE with strong experience in private practice, government or corporate practice.
* Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills to drive success in this role.
* Ability to work autonomously and make strategic legal decisions in a complex regulatory landscape across a group of diverse industries.
* Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, accuracy and timeliness.
* Ability to influence and engage with multiple stakeholders across PPG Business Units, as well as external stakeholders including external legal advisers.
* Able to maintain an in-depth understanding of current legislative requirements, relevant legislative changes, legal best practice (including in connection with practice management and AI), and any specific legal and compliance issues that affect PPG.
In return Paspaley will offer an exciting secure employment opportunity in the tropical city of Darwin, a supportive and collaborative work environment that fosters professional growth and work-life balance, and an attractive remuneration based on experience.
If required, Paspaley will provide relocation assistance to aid settlement in Darwin for the right person.
One further thing: we promise you there will be no requirement for billable hours.
