Pharmacy Technicians in the Department of Health, Tasmania work in a rotational capacity and participate in activities such as medication dispensing, supply to wards, compounding, PBS claiming, inventory management and drug distribution. The Role:
This role provides a safe and effective pharmacy service by undertaking a support role in various pharmacy activities.
* Dispense medications: Prepare orders for authorisation by pharmacists, dispense a range of medications to hospital inpatients and outpatients, maintain patient information in computer systems.
* Compound a range of pharmacy products: Work according to good compounding practices, coordinate product ordering and receipt from suppliers, undertake batch manufacturing and prepacking.
* Compile the PBS claim: Compile prescriptions into required format for claiming, check prescriptions for PBS compliance and rectify non-compliant prescriptions, review rejected prescriptions and take steps to rectify problems.
Requirements:
To be successful, applicants must possess or be enrolled in Certificate III or IV in Health Services Assistance (Hospital and Community Health Pharmacy Assistance) or equivalent qualification. Desired qualifications include other relevant work experience or qualifications.
Working Conditions:
Successful applicants may be required to participate in after-hours on-call work, work weekend or extended hours services, and intrastate travel may be required.
