HEW 6 | Full-Time | 3 month initial assignment
We're seeking a skilled Technical Officer to support teaching and research in food and process chemistry. You'll manage lab operations, maintain equipment, and ensure a safe and compliant environment.
Key Duties
- Safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals (WHS, MSDS, GHS)
- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment:
- Tensiometers
- Gas Chromatography (GC)
- Rotary Evaporators
- Vacuum Ovens
- Fluorometers
- Deliver inductions, SOPs, safety briefings, and hands-on training
- Oversee laser safety (Class 3 & 4), equipment use, and lab protocols
- Manage lab scheduling, inventory, and chemical waste
- Assist with upgrades, risk assessments, and stakeholder communication
About You
- Degree in Chemistry or higher qualifications in Analytical Chemistry/ Chemistry or a related discipline and relevant experience.
- Strong lab and technical experience
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Able to train users and maintain safety standards
- Working With Children Check required
