Carer Peer Worker - Older Adult Acute Mental Health Unit (1 West)

On 1st January 2026, five health services (Kooweerup Regional Health Service, Peninsula Health, Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service) will come together to create Bayside Health; a newly merged health service with more than 22,000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians.

The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce, providing new training, education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1st January 2026, all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

What You Will Be Doing

Carer Peer Workers are empathetic listeners who promote hope, choice and connection in their relationships with others. The Carer Peer Worker will engage and support carers both 1:1 and in group settings. They will also work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to improve consumer, family/carer and team outcomes.

Carer Peer Workers employed at Peninsula Health receive professional support, training and supervision to assist them in their role.

What You Need

We anticipate you will have:

* Must have and be willing to work from a lived experience of caring, supporting, advocating for a loved one with mental health concerns/psychological distress and/or co-occurring MH/AOD concerns
* Have (or be undertaking) relevant Peer Work discipline qualification/training (i.e. Certificate IV in Peer Work, IPS or similar)
* Ability to work from recovery-oriented, trauma-informed approaches and support Carers' sense of dignity and self determination
* Demonstrate understanding and practical application of the guiding principles, values, and ethics of peer support work
