Family Support Coordinator - Waterford West State School & Edens Landing State School

About The Role

As the Family Support Coordinator (FSC) you will:

- Support children and families in their transition from early childhood services into school.
- Facilitate access to learning, health, therapeutic and wellbeing supports to reduce barriers to education.
- Build the capacity of families to support their child’s development and long-term engagement.
- Strengthen school and community partnerships to create inclusive, welcoming environments.
- Work flexibly, including after hours and across multiple school sites, to meet family and community needs.

This is a temporary full-time AO5 position for 15 months, with the possibility of extension, requiring the ability to work after hours and travel between sites as needed.

Your Responsibilities

As the Family Support Coordinator, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Build strong relationships with children, families, carers, school staff and external services.
- Work with teachers and support staff to connect families with targeted services.
- Support vulnerable cohorts, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, EAL/D families, children with disability, and those in care.
- Use data to monitor engagement, evaluate interventions and inform planning.
- Maintain accurate case records and manage information responsibly.

Your Knowledge & Skills

It is highly desirable but not mandatory that our next Family Support Coordinator has experience and knowledge with:

- Knowledge of early years transitions and creating welcoming school environments.
- Ability to support student engagement through positive attendance and behaviour strategies.
- Experience in case management with vulnerable families, using trauma-informed approaches.
- Cultural competence working with First Nations and multicultural/EAL/D families.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (Blue Card requirements, Disability Standards for Education) and strong record-keeping skills.
- Understanding of child development and early intervention supports, including NDIS pathways.
- Experience in interagency collaboration and community development.
- Skills in working with interpreters and engaging families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to use digital tools for tracking engagement and coordinating referrals.
