Key Duties
Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Oracle Exadata Database Administrator within the Enterprise Policing Systems Support (EPSS) Team.
The EPSS Team is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and optimisation of Oracle Exadata database platforms supporting AFP mission critical business applications.
As a member of EPSS, you'll be entrusted with managing high-performance database systems that demand maximum availability, scalability, and security.
You'll drive automation, performance tuning, and proactive issue resolution while collaborating across infrastructure, development, and DevOps teams.
As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.
It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?
The Oracle Exadata Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing the routine operations and maintenance of Oracle databases and ensuring their reliable and efficient performance.
Key responsibilities include:
Administer, monitor, and optimise Oracle Exadata systems for peak performance.
Perform database installations, configurations, patching, upgrades, and migrations.
Maintain backup and recovery strategies using RMAN and Data Guard.
Optimise Exadata storage, compute nodes, and network performance.
Monitor system health using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and related tools.
Support highly available architectures using RAC, ASM, and Data Guard.
Implement and test disaster recovery procedures.
Apply database security best practices, manage users/roles, and ensure compliance with best practice and AFP policies.
Manage auditing and patching for secure operations.
Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to support releases and changes.
Provide 24x7 on-call support for production systems as part of a rotation.
Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and mentor colleagues.

Eligibility
Essential Requirements
You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Tertiary education in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA, including at least 3 years specifically with Oracle Exadata.
Strong knowledge of Oracle Database 11g, 19c onwards, RAC, ASM, RMAN, Data Guard, and OEM.
Proven experience managing high-volume, high-availability database environments.
Expertise in Linux administration related to Oracle Exadata environments.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in a small team environment.
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Certified Master (OCM) certification.
Understanding of ITIL processes and Agile / DevOps methodologies.
Notes
This position is an AFP Band Level 8.
This role is located in Canberra, however remote working options may be negotiated.
