About the opportunity The Sydney Medical Program (SMP) is a graduate entry medicine course (MD) with an annual intake of approximately 300 students. Sydney Medical School received Australian Medical Council (AMC) accreditation to implement a major revision to their four-year medical program (MD2020). In 2021, the Dubbo Stream of the MD2020 was also accredited by the AMC to deliver the end-to-end program at the School of Rural Health for 24 local students as part of the Murray Darling Medical School Network. The first cohort of 24 students commenced in Dubbo in 2022, giving preference to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander candidates, those of rural origin, and those of lower socio-economic status. The MD curriculum integrates preclinical sciences with clinical sciences, clinical skills, population health, ethics, medical law and professionalism, being taught in parallel with preclinical sciences. Year 1 comprises a foundational block that includes an introduction to infection and immunity, and system-based blocks: Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Endocrinology and Nutrition, Sexual Health, Nephrology and Urology, Gastroenterology, and Neurosciences. The metropolitan and Dubbo streams share teaching methods, including a comprehensive set of online lecture modules. The delivery of the Anatomy curriculum in Dubbo uses high-fidelity models and sophisticated visual technology. The School of Rural Health is looking for education-focused Casual Academics to join their highly expert team. Teaching is delivered in person, in Dubbo. Your key responsibilities will be to: deliver revision sessions in any of the biomedical sciences, primarily Anatomy, Physiology, Pathophysiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Histology deliver teaching sessions in any of the biomedical sciences listed above deliver practical sessions in any of the biomedical sciences listed above About you have a PhD/MPhil or other higher degree in the biomedical sciences. A profound knowledge of Human Gross Anatomy is highly desirable. demonstrated experience in teaching of biomedical sciences to medical students and knowledge of the structure of a medical curriculum demonstrated capacity to stimulate, actively engage and educate an audience using a wide range of educational technology. Experience with digital anatomy platforms such as Sectra, Complete Anatomy, and 3D Organon is desirable. demonstrated capacity to implement a biomedical science teaching program in accordance with a defined curriculum demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives have deep and broad experience in teaching and learning, in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings have a developing network of relationships with academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders, including willingness to collaborate with clinicians responsible for delivering the clinical content of the curriculum have experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities demonstrated understanding of and commitment to rural health a demonstrated willingness and ability to perform high level administrative tasks, to provide leadership and to represent the Clinical School’s interests within The University of Sydney and the wider community both scholarly and generally a current driver’s license To keep our community safe, please be aware of our COVID safety precautions which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.
